Ringtones on the iPhone
November 17th, 2007 by WheelzBefore i bought my iPhone i read alot about what you could and couldn’t do with it. One of the issues I kept reading about what how you couldn’t put your own ringtones on it and had to either buy them from itunes or else use the inbuilt ones. This was a little disheartening as I like to have my own on there but oh well, it wasn’t going to stop me from getting one.
Anyway, now I’ve been searching a little more on things i’ve found a way to put your own tunes on your iphones as ringtones and here it how to do it.
- first decide what piece of music you want and use something like SoundBooth to take a 30 second segment of it and save it as an aac (m4a) file.
- in windows explorer make sure you have the filename showing and then just change the extention from m4a to m4r
- just double-click on the new file and it will add it into iTunes as a ringtone.
- Now simply sync it to your iphone then go into settings > sounds > ringtones and then select your new custom ringtone.
And thats it. Any sound file you want can be turned into a ringtone by following the above steps.
